“I approached my first
session with skepticism and a not inconsiderable amount of fear. I felt
particularly vulnerable at the start of the session, lying with my eyes
shut on the massage table.
I’m not sure when the shift occurred, but I remember feeling a lush,
physical peace. Time, by then, wasn't traceable. Time, by then, was
unimportant. My ego disappeared and was replaced by the knowledge that
the ‘I’ exists within a universal context.
As for Robert, himself, he has a very gentle, unthreatening manner. This
is important because, in spite of my initial apprehension, I was able to
let go of fear and experience that sense of interconnectedness which, up
until then, I had read about but not known.”

“A healer
who does not respect his or her client’s wishes is not, in fact, a healer.”
The Starting Point: A Safe and Sacred Space
Robert Ellis
Gordon’s healing room is softly lit. Music, candles and aromatherapy are
available for those who want them.
While these amenities are intended to soothe, they do not, in and of
themselves, engender trust.
And a healing relationship is grounded, above all, on mutual respect and
trust.
So that is the first order of business: the creation of a sacred space where
the client feels safe in every sense of the word.
